Americas
Viticulture has been in the Americas since Spanish missionaries and
conquistadors first brought sacramental wine over from Spain 500
years ago. Only in the last century, however, have American wines,
from both North and South, begun to garner an international
reputation for quality.
Argentina
The land of beef cattle and gauchos is today the world's 5th largest wine producer
and is known for its Malbec as well as for Syrah, Cabernet Sauvigno, Merlot and
Chardonnay.
Canada
Ice wines give cold comfort to Kanucks up in the Great White North. These sweet
wins, infected with the "noble rot" make great after dinner treats.
Chile
Carmenère is Chile's signature grape variety, a noble grape little grown
elsewhere today. Chile has been undergoing a wine renaissance of sorts since
the 1970s.

United States
Prohibition almost killed viticulture in the U.S., but since the 1960s it has
rebounded. Today the U.S., and California in particular, stands among the world's
great wine producers.
